Solar Eclipse

Solar eclipse 20.3.2015 Bristol UK.

I only really set up my camera as a way to view the eclipse.
With a light covering of clouds, the colours were lovely and was quite pleased with the results.

As I viewed the shots later, I discovered this single shot of a bird flying towards the eclipse, not only in a perfect position but also its shape creating a classic silhouette, very lucky!

SEASON'S GREETINGS......

In 1990 I made a Christmas card featuring our rescue terrier Paddy.

This was to be the first of many over the next 27 years.....

2 dogs, 3 children and 27 Christmas's later, making these cards had become something of a family tradition.
The fun for me, has been choosing to create these traditionally rather than with Photoshop, by making my own sets, props and using a fair bit of food bribery!

Below is a selection of images from over the years.

My book 'Bark! The Herald Angels Sing' and a selection of cards are available to order from RaggleCards

Royal Mail photo library

We had an intense work schedule throughout Spring 2014 to create over 250 images for Royal Mail photo library.

I was commissioned by agency Home and worked closely with them from the start.
An epic task of planning and production for their team, as the detail in each image needed to be carefully considered in advance.

Long hours, midnight motorway service stops, the location van became our 2nd home!
Thanks to the dedicated team from Home + Royal Mail, Good spaces locations, Jaine Bevan stylist, Ian Usher retouching, Claudia + Victoria hair / make up, Callum, Fergus + Charlie assistants, Mustard models and everyone else involved.

Here is a small selection:

City of Bristol College - Portraits

Portraits of students at City of Bristol College,  shot for 'Learning for Life' campaign with SBW Advertising.

In other news from the studio.....

We've moved in and will be building our house next door to the studio, here's the story so far.... http://thorpehaus.blogspot.co.uk/

Landscape / Portrait

I'm often asked to shoot staff portraits.
These shots for Bray Leino were printed as a double page spread so I had the opportunity to create a more dramatic image within a landscape.
Scheduled for January, we did the recces during really foul weather, so I was slightly concerned using flash lighting outdoors, where reflectors can become huge kites and equipment damage very likely.
Luckily on our chosen shoot days, the weather settled briefly and apart from a few spots of rain all went smoothly.

Smoke free South West

The posters are now live and I hope the 'be there tomorrow' campaign will be successful.
Special thanks go to the kids in the shots who were great, very patient and importantly really helped us capture a genuine feeling of emotion for this series.
